The Bird Resort offers affordable grooming and DNA testing for your bird. You can come to the resort, or we can come to your home. To eliminate stress and fear in birds, we find going to your home is the best route to take. When we come to your home rather than you taking your bird to the vet, you eliminate any anticipation-related stress from putting your bird in a carrier, going in the car and taking it to an unfamiliar place.

Why Trim Your Bird's Nails?
Your bird's nails should be trimmed so they can perch comfortably and safely. Nails that are too long can catch on materials and break when the bird panics. You can tell your bird's nails are too long if the bird is standing on a flat surface and the nail raises the toe off the surface. Small birds like finches and canaries have toenails that tend to curl and twist so the bird cannot perch at all. While we trim the bird's nails, we use a file to create a soft, rounded tip for the comfort of the owner and the bird. Parrot owners know that even short nails can be razor sharp! When trimming your bird's nails, we aim to be quick and precise so the bird can go back to its regular activities as soon as possible.
Why Trim Your Bird's Flight Feathers?
Trimming your bird's wings gives you more control over your bird's actions. Every summer, countless birds are lost outside when someone leaves the door open behind them, or forgets the bird is on their shoulder! While flying is great for birds and is very natural, we don't live in the jungle. Our houses have windows and walls that birds can fly into and be killed upon impact. There are several other forms of exercise that birds can use to keep fit without flying. When deciding whether to keep your bird flighted, ask yourself: Will the bird be safe flying in my home? If you can safely open doors without your bird flying out; if you don't have little kids who might leave the door open; and if you do not have ceiling fans or poisonous plants then you might have a suitable home for a flighted bird. If you do have these things in your home, you may want to consider trimming your bird's flight feathers. When we trim your bird's wings, they should be able to safely flutter to the ground, not drop like a rock, depending on the level of flight experience the bird has. A different type of wing trimming is called a "baby clip". This is especially effective for large birds. A "baby clip" is a way for your bird to be able to glide, but not go up high. Which might be ideal if you have other pets like a dog or a cat.
*Please note that this is not a painful or even permanent procedure. Wing feathers grow back about every six months, or when your bird molts.*
Why DNA Gender Test Your Bird?
When you get a baby bird, you will probably not see any difference between males and females, but sometimes later on, they do start acting differently. Knowing the gender of your bird can sometimes explain why your bird is acting a certain way, or what to expect from it in the future. If you are looking to breed your bird, this is the easiest way to make successful pairs. Some people want to know just for naming purposes! This is safe and quick; the bird only feels a pinch and it is over. When you get the results back, you will get a certificate from the laboratory proving your bird's gender for you to keep. The results are 99.9% accurate and they are usually back to you within a week via phone or e-mail. The certificate follows shortly after by mail.
